BRITT BANKS

Director | Screenwriter

Britt Banks is an award-winning director devoted to amplifying the voices of women and girls of color. Her work weaves bold storytelling with emotional precision, often centered on urgent issues within the Black community, such as kinship care and police brutality. Britt has a strong affinity for the horror genre, but hold that thought, we’ll come back to it.

Britt is a:

  • Cohort of Ryan Murphy Productions’ Half-Initiative Director Shadowing Program

  • Winner of The Future of Film is Female pre-production grant

  • Winner of the Kickstarter x Tubi: Filmstream Collective Fund grant

  • Winner of the Black Life Film Festival grant

Her films have screened at the Directors Guild of America and Academy-Qualifying Film Festivals around the world. Her latest short, We Are Not Okay, premiered at MoMA in New York and has since screened at AGBO Studios and AMC Networks in Los Angeles and is an official selection of the prestigious Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival. Thicke, a meditation on the aftermath of police brutality, earned multiple awards and grants, while her award-winning short film Blue Laces was acquired by Magic Johnson’s Aspire TV.

With each project, Britt continues to carve out space for stories that are personal, political, and unapologetically human.

Now, back to the horror.
She is currently developing a feature-length script that follows a Black family fighting to keep their home from a relentless developer, one with far more sinister intentions than gentrification.
