About
Britt Banks is an award-winning, horror loving, director and screenwriter, but hold that thought, we’ll come back to it. Britt's passion for filmmaking is rooted in her background in theater and performing arts. Dedicated to amplifying the voices of women and girls of color, Britt crafts narratives that blend social relevance with emotional depth.
Her short film Thicke, a powerful exploration of police brutality’s aftermath, has earned numerous awards and grants. Blue Laces, another acclaimed short, was acquired by Magic Johnson’s Aspire TV, screened at Academy-Qualifying Film Festivals worldwide, and honored at the prestigious Directors Guild of America.
Britt is a participant in Ryan Murphy Productions' Half Initiative Director Shadowing Program and a recipient of The Future of Film is Female pre-production grant. In 2024, she wrote and directed We Are Not Okay, a short film that explores informal kinship care, executive produced by Top Dawg Entertainment.
Now, back to the horror. Britt is currently working on her feature length script, ready for development, that explores a Black family fighting to keep their home from a relentless developer, whose intentions are far more sinister than gentrification.
